Rhonda and I always love market time! It gives us a chance to find great deals for our clients and to get inspired by all of the new and upcoming trends. For this week’s blog we thought we would share some of our interesting finds including unique wall hanging ideas, lighting, and fun color combinations. Accent chairs that make a statement were also a hot trend. Let us know which ones are your favorite by leaving a comment with the corresponding number and letter.
1. Unique Wall Hangings:
Anything made to work on a horizontal surface that is sculptural and has lots of texture is big right now! Metals, glass, woods, and ceramic… you name it and it’s being used. Neutrals and bright colors alike create fantastic focal points and add interest beyond your traditional oil paintings and canvas artwork
From ceiling fixtures to wall sconces, we were dazzled and enlightened by some of the new options. A combination of mixed metals on the same fixtures as well as meshing styles of industrial with formality brought a unique twist to designs. We were honored to be invited to a focus group at the Hubbardton Forge showroom on Monday sponsored by Luxe. We found that was very insightful! They have some beautifully handcrafted fixtures… all made in the USA.
This year we saw three repeated color combinations that were definitely eye catching. Hot pink and orange, coral and a soft pale blue, and rich dark blues with copper tones. Which one is your favorite?
4. Accent Chairs
From funny shapes, custom details and unique fabrics, great accent chairs were everywhere. We love the idea of using a contrasting tape trim to accent the lines of a piece of furniture and to add interest on an otherwise plain back and seat cushion. Great design is all about the details! Oftentimes, we advise our clients to go neutral on their larger “forever” pieces and go bold on the accents. A small chair is the perfect way to add a touch of personal flair and style. What do you think about these options? Which one would you most likely choose for your home?
Another great way to utilize something unique is with an accent side table, cocktail table, or bench and ottoman. “Live Edged” pieces are increasing in popularity and have been for a while. That is where a piece of wood is “untrimmed” or left in its natural shape and form. Each piece will be uniquely different with varying measurements and grain patterns. Acrylic, shell, metal, and natural stone are all becoming commonly used materials for these items. Which design catches your eye the most?
